What does your worship service planning look like? Are you locked into a framework of meetings and deadlines…or do you wing it? Maybe somewhere in between?

It’s common for creative people to have trouble with consistent processes. What’s not so common is to think about a consistent framework of planning as a way to be more flexible and creative. But that’s exactly what it is. Giving your team a consistent planning framework helps to spread out the work, giving everyone more time to dive into music, videos, participation elements and more. Without the rush, creativity can flow and ideas can be realized.

Every ministry is going to have a unique planning framework that works for them, but if you haven’t thought through your own framework, maybe this sample will help get you started:

8 Weeks Out
-scheduling Sunday teams
-talk through message/series themes

6 Week Out
-message theme discussed with creative team
-research of possible service elements

5 Weeks Out
-plan service, agree on creative elements- special music, videos, etc.

4 Weeks Out
-get going on creative elements
-time to make course corrections, changes as necessary

3 Weeks Out
-worship set completed, music charts posted
-any final changes to the service elements are easiest here

2 Weeks Out
-video roughs due
-details for service checked through
-music slides

1 Week Out
-video finals due
-worship and service element transitions discussed
-music team rehearsal
-message slides

One more thing- don’t forget to pray through the process, that God would give you great ideas and the ability to worship Him to the best of your team’s ability! Always be ready for God to break through, but remember that God can break through at any time, even during planning. Happy planning!
