On Friday, July 24th, my first book will be available for purchase in print and digital form on Amazon.com. The book is called The Creative Arts Ministry Field Guide, and its purpose is to teach best practices in worship arts ministry, from planning services to building teams. My best ministry ideas to date are in this book, which is why I’m so excited to share it with the ministry world.

To celebrate the release, I’m going to publish a series of blog posts with portions of the book relating to changing the culture of a worship arts team. I hope these ideas help you in your own life and ministry! Bringing a team to full health, efficiency, and effectiveness is hard but rewarding work. Building the culture of a team to that point is the focus of one section of my book. Here are 2 ideas I’ve used to get the ball rolling. I’ll release 2 more in each post so in the end you will have all 8 from the relevant section of my book. Here we go…

Write It Down

I wrote down team and staff expectations and made sure everyone had a copy. Then I was able to refer back to it in case someone wasn’t following through. It’s hard to argue that you didn’t know or understand the expectations when you have your own copy of them. At Crossroads our team expectations are in booklet form and we call it the Creative Arts Team Guide.

Constant Reminders

I make a point in every email I send to the team to include a reference to one of the expectations or values of our team. Sometimes it is a reminder of the time- “see you at 7:00PM sharp on Wednesday.” At other times I write, “remember to prepare your parts in advance.” I also regularly thank the team for being prepared when they come through.

More to come!
